Seattle Campaign

Out of the 105 schools and roughly 50,000 K-12 students in the Seattle School District, 4,000 experience hunger on a regular basis. The goal of our Seattle Campaign is to create a monthly, $275,000 recurring donation stream, which will provide nutritious food to these 4,000 children year round.

Recurring Donation Total as of Today:
$0

Why are we focused on creating a recurring donation stream? Because hunger for these kids doesn’t stop, and if we’re going to actually end hunger for them, then our solution must be recurring.

Who are we asking to donate? Non-hungry Seattle households and Seattle businesses.

How much are we asking each non-hungry household and business to donate?
Just $5 per month. There are approximately 300,000 non-hungry households and 80,000 businesses in Seattle. If each non-hungry household and business donates $5 per month, we will have achieved our goal and have created a significant reserve fund.

Why will it take $275,000 a month to feed 4,000 kids? During the school year, kids are most vulnerable over the weekend. During the school week, eligible students get free breakfast and lunch at school. A weekend food package costs $10 per student. 40 weeks in the school year X 4,000 hungry kids X $10 per weekend packet ($5/day covers 3 meals plus a snack), = $1,600,000. 84 summer days X $5/day X 4,000 = $1,680,000. $1,680,000 + $1,600,000 = $3,280,000 per year, divided by 12 months = $273,333 per month.
